Who We Are

Serving Children and Families in Need Since 1954

We have been helping children and families in need for over 50 years  and are blessed to serve 100-125 children annually.  NMCCH is located 8 miles west of Portales, NM where we believe:

Our Mission

The Mission of New Mexico Christian Children’s Home in partnership with family, church, and community is to transform each child we serve into a Christian champion who is a respected, responsible citizen through quality group, adoptive, foster, and single-parent homes and services provided by a dedicated professional team under God’s direction.

In 1954, J.W. and Mary Terry responded to a sermon preached by Grover C. Ross concerning the need for a Children’s Home.  J.W. and Mary gave 80 acres of farm land to help establish the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home .  The foundation of that first dormitory style cottage was laid and it was full of boys and girls.  Since then, the Home has grown and provided care for thousands of boys and girls.

NMCCH has had 4 administrators who have served the Home over the past 58 years:

  • Grover C. and Thelma Ross–1957-1973 (Deceased)
  • Jack and Virgine Self–1973-2001 (Retired)
  • Charles and Tommye Anderson–2001-2011 (Retired)
  • Rod and Liz Self–2011-Present (Executive Director)
